If you’ve been dreaming of a clean an organized home, but the job seems like a nightmare, you can now rest easy. Of course an organizational overhaul is a lot to take on, but how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!

Take control of your decluttered destiny and tackle the trash room by room. Check out our list below of the the easiest items to send packing.

Kitchen

  • Old spices
Most spices should be replaced after 12 months.
Not sure if it’s past its prime? Take a whiff. If your oregano has lost its aroma, it’s lost its flavor as well.
  • Unidentified objects in the freezer and refrigerator
  • Expired condiments/packaged goods
  • Plastic take-out utensils and carryout menus
  • Mismatched plastic containers and lids

Bedroom

  • Worn, broken, or single shoes
  • Unused hangers
  • Clothing that has never been worn that you’ve owned for over a year
  • Children’s clothing that is too small

Bathroom

  • Expired makeup products
Mascara should be replaced every three months. Foundation and concealer are good for about a year, while lipstick, eyeshadow, and blush should be replaced every two years.
  • Any item given as a “gift with purchase”
  • Expired medications
  • Toiletries you will never use

Office

  • Last year’s greeting cards
  • Stacks of magazines and catalogs
  • Books you have never read
  • Pens that no longer write
  • Junk mail and old paperwork

Family Room

  • VHS tapes and unwanted DVDs
  • Half-finished craft projects or abandoned hobby materials
  • Games with missing pieces
  • Artwork that doesn’t make you happy
